Dario Amodei, a reference in the world of artificial intelligence, presents in his recent manifesto “Machines of Loving Grace”. “Machines of Loving Grace” is a balanced view of the future that AI could create, highlighting both the opportunities and the risks that we must manage appropriately.
With a PhD in physics from Princeton and a distinguished background in neuroscience, Amodei has worked at Baidu and Google and was vice president of research at OpenAI before founding Anthropic in 2021. There, he focuses on the ethics and risks of AI.
Thanks to his contributions, he has been recognized as one of the most influential people in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
In today’s content I would like to analyze their Manifesto in order to extract the most relevant ideas from it.

Some of the elements to be managed that Amodei points out are:
- Maximize impact: AI will continue to evolve driven by market forces, but risks can be managed.
- Avoid the perception of propaganda: You don’t want the promotion of AI benefits to look like corporate propaganda.
- Avoid grandiloquence and science fiction tone: Many discussions about future AI are full of exaggerations or are too focused on science fiction aspects. Amodei seeks a realistic and concrete vision.
Key Areas of Positive Impact
Amodei describes how Powerful AI or Advanced AI that could be available in 2026 (a concept that predates Artificial General Intelligence or AGI) could transform crucial areas in the next 5-10 years:
- Autonomous, cross-functional AI: We could see the development of an AI that is not only smarter than human experts in multiple disciplines but can also operate autonomously and collaboratively, acting as a workforce that accelerates research and technology development.
- Biology and health: With advanced AI, we could compress a century of medical advances into just a decade, developing technologies such as enhanced CRISPR, personalized treatments for cancer, and breakthroughs such as those achieved by AlphaFold in protein folding.
- Neuroscience and mental health: There is the potential to cure mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia through advances in neural measurement and intervention, improving people’s quality of life and overall well-being.
- Economic development and poverty reduction: AI could accelerate economic growth in the developing world and reduce global inequality.
- Peace and governance: Proactive use of AI could strengthen democracies and prevent authoritarian regimes from exploiting technology.
- Work and personal meaning: Although uncertain, Amodei believes that even in an automated world, humans will find meaning in activities that do not necessarily generate economic value.
How to Build a Positive Future with AI
Amodei stresses that AI’s potential of depends on our collective actions. It is not enough to mitigate risks; we must also envision a positive future that inspires collaboration. Optimism and cooperation are as necessary as caution.
,Amodei’s manifesto invites us to dream big but responsibly and concretely. It envisions a world where AI not only minimizes risk, but creates a future in which disease, poverty, and injustice are drastically reduced, thanks to collaboration between governments, businesses and citizens to harness technology in an equitable and responsible way.

At this point, and seeing the drift of a large majority of governments, I have my reservations that this is feasible. We are seeing it in Europe with a super-regulation of AI, which will take us (if not corrected) to the tail-wagon of developed countries, becoming a new lost opportunity for all its citizens.
